A U.S. lawmaker has put forth another bill to have coins minted in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Korean immigration to the United States.

Representative Robert Andrews submitted a bill Tuesday requiring the Secretary of the Treasury to mint the coins to mark the historic date.

The bill seeks the creation of less than 20-thousand gold coins worth five dollars each and less than ten-thousand silver coins worth one dollar each.

In submitting the bill, the New Jersey Democrat explained that January 2003 marked the 100th anniversary of South Koreans’ immigration to the U.S., and Korean-American organizations at more than 100 locations in the U.S. celebrated the anniversary at that time.

Andrews submitted a similar bill in 2003 and 2005, but the bills were automatically abrogated with the conclusion of parliamentary session.
