Japanese Court Rejects Samsung's Request to Ban Sale of iPhones

The Asahi Shimbun reports a Japanese court has rejected Samsung’s request for an injunction to ban the sale of iPhones.

The Tokyo Regional Court was reported as saying that the request made by Samsung to ban sales of Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S was rejected as the court found no evidence of patent infringement.

Samsung Electronics filed the injunction claiming its competitor violated its patents on technologies related to the download of applications and the “airplane mode” feature found on both Samsung and Apple phones.

The court said the iPhone’s application download methods were different from those of Samsung’s, and the “airplane mode” feature did not constitute infringement as it is an idea that could be thought of “very easily.”
