Protesters, Police Clash in Kuwait Over Election Law Feud

Antigovernment protests in Kuwait turned violent on Sunday amid the government's attempt to revise election law.

Tens of thousands of people participated in the protest against a government-driven revision of election law in Kuwait City at the urging of the opposition party, which is led by Islamists and nationalists.

Many protesters attempted to march and clashed with police, leaving roughly 100 protesters and eleven police officers wounded.

The king of Kuwait ordered the government to revise election law to allow each voter to vote for only one candidate. The Kuwaiti government announced that it will hold general elections on December first. The revision has drawn strong resistance from the opposition camp that is boycotting the general elections.

The previous version of election law allowed one voter to vote for more than one candidate.
