Chinese Media Say Military Tensions Rising on Korean Peninsula

Chinese media say tensions are rising between the militaries of South and North Korea over South Korean civic organizations plans to send anti-North Korea leaflets over the border.

China’s Global Times reported that the possibility of a military clash is growing between the two Koreas, as North Korea strongly protested the civic organization's plans to send anti-North Korea leaflets across the border.

Another Chinese newspaper reported that tension is growing, as South Korea deployed more K-9 self-propelled howitzers and strengthened Air Force patrols after the North threatened to strike Imjingak Pavilion near the border.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei urged the two Koreas to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, saying that China opposes any action that upsets the state of affairs in the region.
