EU Rejects France's Request to Monitor Korean Auto Imports

The executive body of the European Union has rejected France’s request to monitor imports of South Korean cars.

The European Commission said Monday that it turned down France’s request given that it failed to meet legal conditions.

A commission official said even if imports of Korean cars surged for several months in the European Union, there is no evidence proving the surge was concentrated in France.

France has repeatedly claimed that South Korean automakers are selling their cars at a cheap price in the European Union to raise their market share there. France first asked in August that South Korean autos be put on a prior surveillance list.
