Cycling Legend Armstrong Stripped of Tour de France Titles for Doping

The International Cycling Union has stripped cycling legend Lance Armstrong of his record seven Tour de France titles and expelled him from the cycling world for life for doping.

International Cycling Union President Pat McQuaid said in a statement on Monday that “Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling,” and that he “deserves to be forgotten" in the sport. Armstrong won the Tour de France titles between 1999 and 2005.

McQuaid said the union reached the decision after accepting the results of a report by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, which confirmed that Armstrong was at the center of a “massive team doping scheme.”

Meanwhile, U.S. Anti-Doping Agency CEO Travis Tygart called for the establishment of a truth and reconciliation commission that will look into doping schemes in the cycling world.
