Losses from Hurricane Sandy Estimated to Exceed 55 Tln Won

New York and other major cities on the U.S. East Coast have suffered blackouts and huge financial losses due to Hurricane Sandy.

Around eight million households in 15 states along the East Coast are believed to have lost power, and financial losses from the hurricane are estimated to exceed 55 trillion won.

Some of the nuclear power plants in New Jersey, which was one of the areas hit the hardest by Hurricane Sandy, shut down due to trouble with cooling pumps.

Recovery from Hurricane Sandy is expected to take a significant amount of time given the hurricane’s massive impact.
