US Intelligence Budget Falls for Second Straight Year

U.S. intelligence spending has fallen for the second straight year.

The U.S. government said in a report that its budget for intelligence activities was 75-point-four billion U.S. dollars in fiscal year 2012, down four percent from last year.

The budget for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence stood at 53-point-nine billion dollars, down one percent year-on-year. The budget for the Department of Defense fell ten percent to 21-point-five billion dollars.

The U.S. had increased intelligence spending since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It reached an all-time high of more than 80 billion dollars in fiscal year 2010 before dropping to 78-point-six billion dollars in fiscal year 2011.
