A South Korean student was beaten up by a group of local residents in Melbourne, Australia.
Spokesman Cho Tae-young of South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said during a regular press conference on Thursday that the student reported the incident to the South Korean embassy in Australia on Monday. The government has contacted the police in the state of Victoria and is keeping track of the investigation progress. The South Korean government has requested the country to come up with measures to prevent future incidents.
Cho said that one of the assaulters was reportedly imprisoned and indicted. He also noted that an embassy official will meet with a chief police who will look into the case to discuss the issue.
The student, with the surname Chang, was reportedly beaten up at a park near his school dormitory by a group of Caucasian teenagers, who cut off his finger and broke his left arm in the attack that took place on September 27.
