CNN reports that Hurricane Sandy is estimated to have claimed 113 lives during its rampage along the U.S. East Coast earlier this month.

The cable news network said the hurricane killed 43 people in New York alone.

Eight-point-six million families suffered blackouts and 160-thousand households are still without power in Washington D.C. and ten states along the eastern seaboard.

U.S. President Barack Obama will announce programs to help areas hit hard by Hurricane Sandy in New York on Thursday.
