The Japanese government will reportedly renew its territorial claim to South Korea's Dokdo islets in its annual foreign policy report this year.
Japanese media said Thursday that the draft of the 2013 Diplomatic Blue Book states that the Dokdo islets, called Takeshima in Japan, are Japanese territory based on historical facts and under international law.
Since 2006, the annual report that defines the nation’s diplomatic affairs and directions for the year has continuously included territorial claims over the South Korean islets. The draft of the report will be briefed to the Cabinet early next month.
Meanwhile, this year’s Diplomatic Blue Book states that the state of affairs is becoming increasingly severe due to conflicts over territory, territorial waters and airspace, suggesting that Japan is conscious of its conflicts with China over the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, which China also claims.
Japan recently made territorial claims over the Dokdo islets in high school textbooks and is likely to continue its claim in the Defense White Paper later in July.
