US Marines May Station Special Forces on Navy Ships

The U.S. Marine Corps is reportedly considering stationing special forces on Navy ships to more rapidly respond to emergencies overseas, such as attacks at U.S diplomatic missions or hostage crises.

The Wall Street Journal said that the Marine Corps began considering the plan after it came under fire for mishandling the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in September. The attack killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, as the U.S. military failed to intervene in the initial stage with no forces stationed nearby.

Marine Corps Commandant General James Amos insisted that stationing Marine commandos on naval ships will boost their capability to handle various international emergencies.
