The U.S. government has stressed that dialogue will be possible with North Korea only if the North works toward denuclearization.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters that U.S.-North Korea dialogue will become possible only if the North shows a clear intention toward denuclearization and a serious attitude toward change.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who wrapped up a three-leg Northeast Asian tour, emphasized that negotiations with the North can only begin once the condition of the North’s determination toward denuclearization is met.

Kerry said there can be no negotiations or talks if the North adheres to the past method of seeking nuclear weapons development and negotiations at the same time.
