Asahi: N. Korea, China Likely to Engage in Talks Soon

Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reports a high-ranking Chinese official may visit North Korea soon for talks.

The Japanese newspaper said North Korea expressed its willingness to talk with Beijing and that China's chief representative for the six-party nuclear talks, Wu Dawei, may visit North Korea.

The newspaper cited a source related to North Korean affairs that North Korea had sought talks with Beijing in mid-April, which has led government officials in South Korea, the U.S. and Japan to believe that North Korea is unlikely to fire a missile anytime soon.

North Korea still has missiles stationed on the eastern coast, including Musudan missiles, but some troops have been observed to have withdrawn from the coast.

The report also said no unusual military movements have been observed ahead of the founding day of the North’s army, which falls on April 25th.
