Some 190 Dead from Earthquake in China

Casualty numbers from the powerful earthquake that struck China’s southwestern province of Sichuan on Saturday continue to climb.

The Sichuan government says as of early Monday, some 190 people were dead and 20 others missing from the seven-point-zero magnitude quake that shook the provincial city of Leshan.

Local authorities say eleven-thousand-300 are injured, including 960 with serious injuries. They added that as search and rescue efforts proceed, the casualty count will continue to climb.

Thirty-four-thousand troops and rescue officers are working on the scene. They believe Monday, three days since the quake, will be crucial in the rescue operation.

Over 18-hundred aftershocks have continued in the Leshan area and people who lost their homes and nearby residents remain fearful of more destruction.
