A Hong Kong market research firms estimates that Samsung Electronics was number one in smartphone sales globally during the first quarter except for the North American market.

Counterpoint Research said that Samsung Electronics dominated market shares in terms of smartphones in Asia, Europe, South America, the Middle East and Africa during the first quarter.

The Korean electronics giant saw its market share reach 44 percent in Europe. Its share stood at 41 percent in South America, the Middle East and Africa.
