A member of the minor opposition Unified Progressive Party (UPP) has been arrested for allegedly contacting North Korean agents.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office said on Friday that a 44-year-old UPP member, identified by the surname Jeon, was arrested for meeting and maintaining contact with North Korean agents by e-mail and telephone in violation of the National Security Law.

The National Intelligence Service (NIS) is questioning Jeon on whether he received orders from the North and conveyed them to the pro-North Revolutionary Organization, or RO.

The prosecution said it has also launched internal investigation into two more persons on similar charges.
