Makgeolli Festival to Kick Off Next Week

A three-day festival on the traditional rice wine makgeolli will begin on October 29 on Jara Island near Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province.

An association of Korean makgeolli producers announced the plan to hold the festival in which 200 types of traditional Korean wine and liquor will be offered and sold.

Visitors will be able to participate in various hands-on events to make and taste makgeolli and other traditional spirits.

To help boost the market of traditional Korean alcoholic drinks, the association hosts the makgeolli festival on the last Thursday of October every year, which also marks Makgeolli Day. The inaugural festival was held in 2011.
