Korean-built 3rd Bosphorus Bridge in Turkey Opens

The third bridge, built by South Korean firms, to span over the Bosphorus Straight in Istanbul, Turkey opened on Friday.

The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge creates a new link between Asia and Europe. It is one-point-four kilometers long and 58 meters wide with eight vehicle lanes and a double track railway.

It was built by South Korea's consortium of Hyundai Engineering and Construction and SK Engineering and Construction at a cost of 800 to 900 million dollars over three years.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony, which was also attended by Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and other key ruling party officials.

The Ankara government says the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is the world's biggest suspension bridge and has been named after the sultan who expanded the Ottoman Empire.
