Labor and management representatives at Seoul Metro, the operator of Seoul subway lines one to eight, have struck an agreement.

This comes 103 days after the firm's labor union set up a tent outside Seoul City Hall and demanded a halt to the driverless train operation(DTO) and smart station projects.

According Seoul City and Seoul Metro, labor and management officials held negotiations into the late hours of Friday and reached an agreement at 11 p.m.

The two sides agreed to discuss whether to proceed with the unmanned subway operation projects through a social consultation body.

The Seoul government will oversee the social discussion process that will also include civic groups and scholars.

The management of Seoul Metro has agreed to reflect the talks' outcome in its policy decision.

Labor and management have also agreed to promote long-serving employees who worked for over 18 years.

Job training and performance assessments will also be carried out within the year for employees who entered the firm less than three years ago including those who were converted to full-time positions earlier this year.
