One out of four BMW vehicles in South Korea subject to a massive recall has been inspected and had faulty parts replaced.

The Korean unit of the German carmaker said on Sunday that since it launched the recall of some 106-thousand cars on August 20th, about 28-thousand cars or 26 percent went through the recall process.

The company, which blamed a leaky cooler in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) component for a series of engine fires in its vehicles, is replacing a cooler and a valve of the component, as well as cleaning the EGR pipe as part of the recall.

A company official said that the recall is likely to be completed by the end of this year as planned, citing a smooth supply of parts.
