Russian Foreign Minister Assesses Koreas, US Refraining from Provocation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has assessed that the two Koreas and the United States are all refraining from radical acts that may raise tensions.

The Russian top diplomat gave the assessment on Monday during an annual New Year press conference in Moscow.

Asked about the Korean Peninsula situation, Lavrov reportedly said that he has seen difficulties continuing and accumulating between North Korea and the U.S. and between the two Koreas over the recent one and a half years.

However, he took note of the fact that these countries are refraining from any violent acts that are military-related and may raise tensions on the peninsula.

The Russian foreign minister added that many people closely watched the North's recent military parade after its party congress, but the North did not do anything that could give cause to raise tensions.

Lavrov then said that Russia supports lasting and solid peace on the peninsula and that it is pursuing a related action plan with China to contribute to the efforts.
