Seoul’s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday it will swiftly pursue high-level exchanges with the Joe Biden administration to coordinate strategies for the resumption of talks between Washington and Pyongyang.

The ministry revealed the plan in a report of major policies for this year to President Moon Jae-in focused on its efforts to produce concrete outcomes of the peace process on the Korean Peninsula and enter a "practical process" of denuclearization of the region.

A senior official of the ministry said it expects speedy high-level exchanges with the U.S. as soon as the Biden administration completes the Congressional endorsement process of major presidential appointees on foreign affairs and security, adding they will begin with a foreign ministers’ meeting, followed by “high-level” talks and a bilateral summit.

The official said Seoul is paying particular attention to who will become the new U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, adding Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Noh Kyu-duk is ready to talk with his U.S. counterpart.

Meanwhile, the ministry said it will also try to swiftly arrange a delayed visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping and further solidify forward-looking relations with China by restoring cultural exchanges and launching a committee to draft a 30-year development plan on Seoul-Beijing ties.

It also vowed to continue communication with Tokyo to resolve conflicts over historical issues between the two countries and work for future-oriented bilateral ties.
