While students in South Korea will have to continue both in-class and online learning in the new school year amid the pandemic, the government plans to expand face-to-face learning for lower elementary grades and special education students.

Such measures were included in the Education Ministry's policy plans for the new year announced by Education Minister Yoo Eun-hae on Tuesday.

In adhering to the current classroom density regulations, the ministry will dispatch some two-thousand part-time teachers to elementary grades one through three to help divide up classrooms with more than 30 students.

The government will expand use of artificial intelligence(AI) in supporting students' individual learning in math for grades one to four and Korean and English for grades three to six.

The ministry will also introduce measures to enhance communication between teachers and students during online learning.
