The government will strengthen its procedures to discern fake independence fighters.
In a written briefing to the presidential office, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said on Wednesday that it will inspect some 15-hundred people including those decorated for their contribution to the nation’s independence by 1976 and those whose recognition has been questioned.
The ministry said efforts are under way by a verification committee as well as a special advisory committee that it created recently, apparently to address concerns of fairness in the verification committee’s operations.
The special advisory committee is said to include some 20 members, including figures from various fields of society, including leading academics. The inspection process is set to last until the end of the year.
