AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines that were being transported to the southernmost island of Jeju were returned after a temperature anomaly was detected in the shipment.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) on Thursday, a vehicle carrying the shots left a logistics center in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, the previous day and returned upon discovering the irregularity.

The vaccines are reportedly enough to cover one-thousand-950 people.

While the AstraZeneca vaccine should be kept at between two and eight degrees Celsius, the temperature inside the packages was reportedly at around one-point-five degrees.

A second vehicle carrying a new batch of vaccines has since arrived on Jeju Island. The KDCA has yet to decide whether to discard the recovered batch.
