Eastern parts of South Korea's Gangwon Province are expected to see heavy rains and strong winds on Monday due to the effects of Typhoon Lupit.
The tropical storm made landfall on Japan's southwestern island of Kyushu on Sunday night and is forecast to move northeast to pass through Japan. It is then expected to exit through South Korea's East Sea on Monday afternoon.
The typhoon is unlikely to have a direct impact on the nation, but is forecast to bring heavy rains of up to 80 millimeters for the eastern parts of Gangwon Province, the Dokdo islets and Ulleung Island in the East Sea on Monday.
Gangneung had nearly 150 millimeters of rain on Sunday due to the effects of the typhoon.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as of 6 a.m. Monday, 12 cases of damage have been reported, including five flooded roads in Gangneung.
More than 100 trails at five national parks in Gyeongju, Taebaek and Seorak have been closed.
