President Moon Jae-in ordered government ministries and agencies to maintain emergency response readiness and to thoroughly prepare to minimize damage from the incoming Typhoon Omais.

According to presidential spokesperson Park Kyung-mee on Monday, Moon specifically asked officials to reinforce preparedness against floods and landslides.

With nationwide COVID-19 vaccinations under way, the president also called for measures to prevent damage to testing sites and vaccination facilities.

As Typhoon Omais is forecast to make landfall late Monday, downpours of more than 70 millimeters per hour, coupled by winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour, are expected to hit southern regions and Jeju Island until Tuesday.
