The U.S. State Department reaffirmed it supports inter-Korean dialogue and is ready to meet with North Korea without any preconditions.

Department spokesperson Jalina Porter said in a telephone press briefing on Monday that the U.S. supports inter-Korean cooperation, when asked to comment on the North's recent overture to South Korea.

Asked about declaring a formal end to the Korean War, Porter said that Washington is prepared to meet with the North without preconditions and hopes the North will respond positively to the U.S' outreach.

The spokesperson, however, declined to give direct answers when asked if the U.S. will be willing to consider easing sanctions against the North.

She just said that the U.S.' goal remains the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, repeating that it is ready to meet with the North without preconditions.
