President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump plan to hold discussions soon about Trump's upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un set for late this month in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.
Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said during a news briefing Sunday that the two leaders are expected to speak by phone, adding the top office will announce details as soon as preparations are complete.
The spokesman said the two nations will continue cooperation and communication at diverse levels, adding Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo soon for talks.
He said Chung Eui-yong, chief of the presidential National Security Office, will also share and exchange information with U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton.
Regarding U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun's recent trip to Pyongyang for pre-summit talks, the spokesman said that the negotiations have confirmed again close cooperation between Seoul and Washington.
He said the negotiations reiterated that the governments of the two allies have no differences regarding how to resolve the issue of the North's denuclearization, quoting Biegun as saying that Seoul and Washington are "on the same page."
