Subway Opens in Seoul

Subway Line 1 Opens
Seoul Subway Line 1 first opened on August 15, 1974, making South Korea the fourth country in Asia to operate a subway system after Japan, China and North Korea. The subway system replaced Seoul’s tram line as the new major public transportation system since tram operations ended in 1968. As of 2015, 9 subway lines connect the entire city, and also link Seoul with nearby satellite cities in Gyeonggi Province via connection with other lines.
