Part 36. Peaceful Transition of Power
On February 25th 1998 long-time political dissident Kim Dae-jung is inaugurated as the 15th president of the Republic of Korea. Kim Dae-jung’s victory ushered in the era of the opposition party taking control of government administration and the National Assembly for the first time since the beginning of the constitutional government in Korea. The road toward this important milestone in Korean political history was fraught with confusion and hardship, but thanks to the Korean people's fervent hope for democracy, the perennial political underdog was given a chance to make a difference.
