Part 43. Cheonggyecheon Stream, Restored Back to Nature and the Hearts of the People
Downtown Seoul is a modern area full of tall buildings. Amid the buildings and loud noises of the city, we can hear the sound of flowing water. It comes from Cheonggyecheon Stream, a 10.84 kilometer stream that flows through Jongno-gu and Jung-gu district in downtown Seoul. Since it was restored in 2005, the Cheonggyecheon Stream has become a popular spot for Seoul citizens and tourists alike to take a break, and enjoy a little bit of nature within the busy city. It has also become the first step in helping other streams in Seoul to recover their ecological environment. The Cheonggyecheon Stream was born with the birth of the Joseon Kingdom and its waters remember the history of the Korean people. The stream is now a familiar space for rest where history, nature and people are in harmony, bringing culture and nature into the busy city center.
