2017 F/W Hera Seoul Fashion Week Special

2017-04-04

The 2017 Fall/Winter Hera Seoul Fashion Week, hosted by the Seoul Design Foundation, came to a close last Saturday, and with it came a host of exciting trends for Fall/Winter 2017. The iconic Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) located in Jongno, Seoul, played host to crowds of fashionistas, buyers, and press, all eager to get a first glimpse of the next big thing in fashion—and I was there at the scene to check it all out. Today on K-Beauty & Style, we bring you an inside look at Seoul Fashion Week.

* On the Runways
The 2017 Fall/Winter Hera Seoul Fashion Week has made yet another big statement. During the week of glitz and glam, some 70 local designers staged 46 runways, attracting more than 280,000 visitors to the venue—and just like every year, the runways were filled to the brim with high fashion. The stellar lineup of designers included veteran names such as Jin Tae-ok, Gee Chun-hee, and Song Zio whose works were featured at the Seoul Collection—the original runway program and the highlight of Korea’s biggest fashion festival. Adding to the richness and extravagance of the event were the rookie designer brands such as "Anne And The CRWD” and "By. D’By" which were featured at the Generation Next Seoul, a gateway to the professional fashion world for up-and-coming designers. Judging by what I saw on the catwalks, long coats, padded jackets, oversized capes, vivid colors, wide legged pants and timeless tailored jackets will definitely be “in” for Fall/Winter 2017. In particular, super bright colors such as neon red, hot pink, zesty orange and electric blue were embraced by designers while extra long padded jackets, wool coats, and capes were some of the “it” items on the runways.

* On the Streets
The DDP was brimming with excitement and adventure, even outside the venue. Seeing the newest designs in high fashion is always an awe-inspiring experience, but the event was also great for people-watching. Spotted at the latest Seoul Fashion week were hordes of street fashionistas strutting down the long walkways at the venue and posing for everyone and anyone with a camera. Yes, indeed—another kind of fashion show was happening outside the DDP, where the energy was so high. Attendees sported chic, colorful, and arresting ensembles and photographers were immersed in their own worlds, trying to capture the best fashion moments. Among others, spring staples ranging from flowy maxi skirts, leather biker jackets, tight-fitting double-breasted tailored suits to black jeans, crop tops and embellished sneakers were some of the hottest street fashion looks at Seoul’s most popular fashion event.

Catwalk or street, one thing was for sure at the 2017 Fall/Winter Hera Seoul Fashion Week—it was a whirlwind of fashion emotions, proving to be yet another week of head-turning collections and some seriously dope street styles.
