Biennale, the Italian word for “biennial,” is a term used in the art world to describe a large-scale international contemporary art exhibition that takes place every two years.

The 11th Gwangju Biennale is currently taking place in the metropolitan city of Gwangju. This week on Touch Base in Seoul, we speak to Professor Yang-woo Park of Chung-ang University Graduate School of Art who is the President of the Gwangju Biennale about Asia’s largest and the longest-running contemporary art festival.
