Poem Publisher Kim Dong-geun

2016-03-08

One of Korea's most beloved poet Yun Dong-ju's life has been recreated in a movie recently, and just prior to its release copies of the first edition of Yun Dong-ju’s poem collection hit the bookstores. But Yun Dong-ju’s poem collection wasn’t the only first edition copies to be published again. In last November, exact replicas of Kim So-wol’s original poem collection were made available in the market, sparking public interest in poetry again and putting both Yun Dong-ju’s and Kim So-wol’s books on the bestsellers’ list. The publisher who resurrected the first edition copies of noted Korean poems is Kim Dong-geun, the CEO of one-person publishing company, Sowadari. When everyone else said it was impossible to restore original editions, Kim Dong-geun believed in himself and succeeded in restoring the old poem collections exactly as they were first published 90 years ago. His efforts brought the poets back to life once more and allowed Korean poem lovers to reacquaint themselves with the iconic poets.
