The ruling Democratic Party’s(DP) acting head, Kim Tae-nyeon, has proposed that all lawmakers be subject to an inspection of their real estate holdings.

Kim said during a party policy coordination meeting on Thursday that the DP is currently investigating the real estate owned by its lawmakers and their aides and called on the opposition camp to do the same.

His remarks came as the Moon administration is under fire amid allegations of land speculation involving employees of the state-run Korea Land and Housing Corporation(LH).

In response, the interim leader of the main opposition People Power Party(PPP), Kim Chong-in, said he is open to the idea.

He added that it is inexcusable for family members of public officials to obtain inside information and engage in speculative activities.
