The six-party talks on the North Korean nuclear issue, stalled since October of last year, are expected to resume soon.
The nation’s top nuclear envoy, Kim Sook, told reporters that the starting point would be the North’s nuclear declaration.
As soon as Pyongyang submits its declaration, China, the chair country of the talks, will schedule a meeting of the top nuclear envoys of the concerned parties.
During his two-day stay in Beijing on Sunday and Monday, Kim met his U.S. counterpart, Christopher Hill, and then his Chinese counterpart, Wu Dawei. They discussed scheduling for the six-party talks and the nuclear declaration and its verification.
Meanwhile, a government official said that, after the North’s nuclear declaration, it will be removed from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism. Then, Pyongyang will broadcast live the demolition of a cooling tower at its main nuclear site at Yongbyon.
