Russian automaker “Sollers” is seeking to purchase the rights to produce Ssangyong sport-utility vehicles after the Korean firm filed for bankruptcy protection last week.

The Russian daily Kommersant said Thursday that Sollers is preparing its bid for the rights, adding that the move would allow Sollers to continue manufacturing Ssangyong models in Russia free from the Korean company’s influence.

Sollers currently holds licenses to produce Ssangyong's Rexton II and Kyron sport-utility vehicles.
