A Korean American is set to follow his father’s footsteps into the White House.

Kang Jin-young, whose English name is Christopher, is expected to serve as the special assistant to the president on legislative affairs under the Barack Obama administration.

Kang is the son of Dr. Kang Young-woo, who has been serving as a member of the White House’s National Council on Disability for the past seven years. Dr. Kang is the first visually impaired Korean to earn both a masters degree and a doctorate.

Christopher Kang, who was the former Legislative Aide for Senator Richard Durbin, is currently working at the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

He first met Obama’s wife Michelle while he was a student at the University of Chicago where the soon-to-be first lady served as the Associate Dean of Student Services.

He continued to maintain ties with the couple during Obama’s years in the Senate.
