U.S. President-elect Barack Obama has received the highest pre-inauguration approval rating among all former U.S. presidents since the 1930s.

Broadcaster ABC and the Washington Post surveyed one-thousand U.S. adults nationwide for four days last week. Obama's approval rating came to a resounding 80 percent.

In a telephone poll conducted last week by CBS and the New York Times on eleven-hundred people, 79 percent were optimistic about the next four years with Obama in office. The figure is higher than those received by the previous five presidents.
