The White House is suggesting the incoming Barack Obama administration’s stance on North Korea's nuclear weapons program will be very similar to that of the outgoing Bush administration, saying the president-elect will continue to utilize the six nation talks aimed at nuclear dismantlement.
Concerning North Korea's repeated threats to get tough with South Korea's conservative Lee Myung-bak government, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino was quoted as saying Monday that "it's not surprising that they would bang their spoons on their high chair to try to get attention."
Perino suggested that the Obama administration continue to utilize the six-way framework, saying that the nuclear issue can only be resolved through diplomacy.
North Korea's military said last week that it would take "an all-out confrontational posture" against South Korea for President Lee's pledge not to actively engage the North unless Pyongyang abandons its nuclear ambitions.
