New U.S. President Barack Obama has vowed an era of American politics based on responsibility and accountability.
In his inaugural speech Wednesday, Obama said the U.S. faces numerous challenges, both real and serious, which will not be resolved quickly or easily. His statements come at a time when national sentiment has deteriorated due to the military’s continued presence in the Middle East and a severely weakened economy.
Obama said that “starting today, the U.S. people must pick themselves up, dust themselves off and begin the work of remaking America" as he spoke of a “new era of responsibility.”
He also said that with old friends and former foes, the U.S. will work tirelessly to lessen nuclear threats. He warned that the U.S. will defeat those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocent people.
Obama also stressed that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, adding that the U.S. is ready to lead such efforts once more.
