Koreans overseas in U.S. cities such as Los Angeles and Washington, held memorial services simultaneously with the funeral service for the late Stephen Cardinal Kim Sou-hwan held in Korea.

An association of priests in California held a memorial service for the late cardinal at Saint Joseph Cathedral Basilica in L.A., with some 800 mourners attending the Mass.

Catholics at several cathedrals in Washington also mourned the death of Korea’s first cardinal.

The late Cardinal Kim visited L.A. during Thanksgiving in 1997 where he celebrated a mass for overseas Koreans.

Cardinal Kim died Monday at the age of 87.
