US Conducts Anti-Missile Tests

The U.S. Department of Defense says it has conducted three rounds of anti-missile defense tests to combat the threat posed by a possible North Korean missile launch.

Patrick O'Reilly, director of the department’s Missile Defense Agency, made the remarks Wednesday during a hearing of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee.

He was asked if the current U.S. missile defense system could protect the nation, should North Korea launch a missile attack.

O’Reilly said his agency conducted a number of tests under multiple scenarios, which gave him considerable confidence in the nation’s defense capability.

The official added that the U.S. missile defense system is capable of intercepting an enemy’s missiles, citing its ability to fire a great number of interceptor missiles simultaneously.
