Hyundai's Genesis Named Top Safety Pick

Hyundai Motor’s Genesis luxury sedan has been named a “Top Safety Pick” by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The institute said Friday that Genesis earned a “good” overall evaluation in side impact, frontal offset and rear crash tests in the large-car category.

Honda’s Acura RL sedan and Audi A6 were also among the eight cars given a Top Safety Pick rating.

In August last year, Hyundai’s Genesis received the highest scores in frontal and side crash tests from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), beating out the BMW 5-series, Mercedes Benz E-Class and Lexus ES350.

The IIHS is a nonprofit vehicle safety research institute funded by 80 U.S. auto insurers.

The institute and the NHTSA are two of the top organizations responsible for producing comprehensive automobile safety ratings.
