US Legislators Urge Obama to Move on FTAs

A group of top U.S. legislators has called on the Obama administration to swiftly deliberate on free trade agreements awaiting ratification in Congress.

The group, which includes Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel, made the call during a news conference Saturday.

The group expressed hope that the Obama administration will swiftly submit drafts of the trade pacts with South Korea, Panama and Colombia so Congress can move forward with deliberations.

Baucus said that Congress cannot act unilaterally, but he was quick to add that Korean and U.S. trade officials must settle differences over auto provisions in the trade pact before deliberation on the trade deal takes place in Congress.
