Japanese Abductee's Family to Meet Ex-NK Spy

The family of a Japanese woman, who was allegedly abducted by North Korea in 1978 and taught Japanese to former North Korean agent Kim Hyon-hui, will arrive in Busan Tuesday to meet with Kim.

The elder brother and the eldest son of Yaeko Taguchi will meet with Kim at a Busan hotel on Wednesday. They will hold a joint news conference afterward organized by the Japanese embassy.

Taguchi went missing in 1978 and is believed to have taught Japanese to Kim Hyon-hui while in North Korea. Kim was convicted for her role in the 1987 bombing of a Korean Air flight but was later freed under a presidential pardon.

The Tokyo government conveyed the Taguchi family's wish to meet Kim, which she then accepted.

North Korea admitted abducting Taguchi but says she died in 1986, a claim Japan disputes.
