U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says Washington is considering a “range of options” should North Korea push ahead with an alleged long-range missile launch.
After meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Washington Wednesday, Clinton said she and Mr. Yang agreed that their nations are "unified" in opposing any North Korean missile launch and have agreed to discuss a response if needed.
Clinton said there are a range of options available against North Korea should it pursue such an action, although she did not elaborate what the options might be.
Clinton said five of the members of the six-way nuclear talks are working to dissuade the North from pushing ahead with a launch and are willing to cooperate in a variety of ways, should it occur.
She stressed that a Pyongyang missile launch would violate a U.N. Security Council resolution that forbids the North from nuclear tests or ballistic missile launches.
Clinton said the U.S. would like to see North Korea show its willingness to re-engage in dialogue with the members of the nuclear talks to work together to complete the agenda the North agreed to in previous nuclear negotiations.
