‘Europe to Urge NK Not to Launch Satellite’

Radio Free Asia says a delegation of the European Parliament will urge North Korea during the group’s visit to the communist state not to carry out its planned launch of a satellite.

A five-member delegation is set to visit the North for five days starting Monday by invitation of the North Korean Workers’ Party.

Parliamentary member Glyn Ford, known to be well-versed in North Korean affairs, told the Washington-based broadcaster that the EU will make clear that the European Parliament does not want tension to heighten on the Korean Peninsula due to a provocative act, such as a missile launch.

He added that the EU hopes to be able to continue assisting the North in the energy sector, explaining that it has provided 500 million euros worth of support for Pyongyang over the past eight years through humanitarian aid, the construction of light-water reactors and other small-scale developments.
